*   If no candidate for any one local seat receives more than 50% of the vote in the June Primary Election, the top-two candidates for that seat will move forward to the November General Election.

 

Considering running for office?

  • The Candidate's Guide for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election will be available in September 2025. 

  • Candidate Filing Forms will be issued in-person from the Elections's Office in Bridgeport, CA from February 9, 2026 through March 6, 2026. If an incumbent does not file by March 6, the filing deadline is extended to March 11. 

    • Between December 11, 2026-February 4, 2026, candidates may obtain signature-in-lieu forms from the county office of elections to secure signatures in lieu of paying all or part of the filing fee.
  • Local Candidates may file 200-word Candidate Statements (250-word limit for US Representative and Legislative Candidates) for inclusion in the June 2, 2026, Primary Election County Voter Information Guide.

      • Assembly Bill 773 (Pellerin) Chapter 664, Statutes of 2023, an elections official shall post the form to be used by a candidate to submit a candidate statement pursuant to Section 13307, Section 13307.5, or subdivision (c) of Section 85601 of the Government Code, on the elections official’s internet website, and shall accept the electronic submission of that form if it is submitted in accordance with the times and procedures set forth in this code for the preparation of the voter information portion of the county voter information guide.

 


IMPORTANT UPCOMING ELECTION DATES

CANDIDATE SIGNATURE IN-LIEU PERIOD

Between these dates, candidates may obtain signature-in-lieu forms from the county office of elections to secure signatures in lieu of paying all or part of the filing fee. If an in-lieu-filing-fee petition contains a requisite number of valid signatures, the candidate shall not be required to file nomination papers. Within 10 days after receipt of a petition, the elections official shall notify the candidate of any deficiency. The candidate shall then, at the time of obtaining nomination forms, pay a pro rata portion of the filing fee to cover the deficiency.

Between these dates, all candidates must file their declarations of candidacy along with their candidate statements of qualifications if they choose to submit one.

EXTENDED CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD 
(If No Incumbent Files)

Extension period for anyone other than the incumbent to file a declaration of candidacy and nomination documents if the incumbent did not file by March 6, 2026. This provision does not apply if there is no incumbent eligible to be elected.

The Secretary of State (SOS) and the Office of the Registrar of Voters will conduct a drawing of letters of the alphabet to determine the order in which candidates appear on the ballot.
