Transient Occupancy Tax

Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) is collected by Mono County from all transients who stay within Mono Counties Unincorporated lodging facilities, R.V. parks, and campgrounds.  The current rate of tax is 12%.

On November 5, 2024, voters approved Measure K to increase the TOT from 12% to 15%. This adjustment is designed to support affordable housing, local infrastructure, and community services in unincorporated Mono County. The new rate of 15% is expected to become effective on December 13, 2024. Starting on this date the updated 15% TOT rate will apply to all transient rentals, including any reservations with a check-in date on or after December 13, 2024.

All Mono County operators can expect to receive additional information in the next distribution of tax filing returns, which is for the quarter ending December 31, 2024..
