Notary Services
The County Clerk's Office provides limited notary services on most Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during business hours. All services are on an appointment-only basis. No same day appointments are available.

Types of documents that may require notarization:
Plans, Deeds, Contracts, Affidavits, Wills, and Trusts.
The Mono County Clerk's Office does not offer Apostille services.
The California Secretary of State provides Apostilles to authenticate California public officials' signatures on documents to be used outside of the United States of America. Visit their website for more information: Request an Apostille : California Secretary of State.
Be prepared for your notary appointment:
- Bring your documents - must be printed.
- Bring a valid, government issued photo ID.
Notarization Requirements:
- The signer must appear in person.
- A valid picture I.D. is required. A picture I.D. can consist of a state issued driver’s license or identification card or a current passport.
- The document must be completely filled out with no blanks other than the signature line (this will be signed in the presence of the notary). The signer must understand the document that he/she is signing.
- The notary is unable to prepare or complete documents or give advice as to the legality or correctness of a document. The notary never chooses the type of certificate a document needs. The signer must let the notary know which kind of notarial act to perform (Acknowledgment or Jurat).
Acceptable forms of photo identification:
All ID cards must be either current or issued within the last 5 years.
- Identification card or driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles;
- United States passport;
- Inmate identification card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, if the inmate is in custody in California state prison;
- Any form of inmate identification issued by a sheriff’s department, if the inmate is in custody in a local detention facility; or
- Valid consular identification document issued by a consulate from the applicants country of citizenship, or a valid passport from the applicant’s country of citizenship;
- Driver’s license issued by another state or by a Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized to issue driver’s licenses;
- Identification card issued by another state;
- United States military identification card (caution: current military identification cards might not contain all the required information);
- Employee identification card issued by an agency or of office of the State of California, or an agency or of office of a city, county, or city and county in California.
- Identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government.
