RE: Mountain Rescue Association hosts Search and Rescue Training in Mono County
During the weekend of March 1, 2013, Mono County, and more specifically, the community of June Lake, was host to the Mountain Rescue Association’s (MRA) certification/recertification course for various Search and Rescue teams.
Throughout the weekend, 18 Search and Rescue teams from across California and Alaska, including the Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue team, participated in various hands-on trainings in areas such as: snow rescue techniques; navigation techniques; avalanche beacon training; rope techniques; litter/medical rescue techniques; and radio techniques.
The Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) was established in 1959 on Mt. Hood, Oregon, and is the oldest search and rescue association in the United States. It is an organization of teams dedicated to saving lives through rescue and mountain safety education. The Mono County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team is an associate member of this organization.
