Jury Convicts Lonnie Kauk on All Counts of Domestic Violence
April 28, 2025
On April 18, 2025, a Mono County jury found Lonnie Kauk guilty of all counts, including three felonies and one misdemeanor. Mr. Kauk was convicted of felony domestic violence that caused great bodily injury, as well as felony criminal threats, felony vandalism, and misdemeanor domestic violence. Mr. Kauk faces a maximum sentence of 8 years, 4 months in state prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 23, 2025.
Mr. Kauk was convicted of strangling his girlfriend unconscious after an argument on June 22, 2023. Before the strangulation, he threatened to kill the victim’s dog in front of her, her father who was in the hospital at the time, and ultimately, the victim herself after he gouged her eyes out so that he was the last person she saw.
Strangulation has been identified as one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence and unconsciousness can occur within seconds, death within minutes. According to the Training Institute on Strangulation, a woman who has suffered a non-fatal strangulation incident with their intimate partner is 750% more likely to be killed by the same perpetrator.
The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the victim for having the courage to testify and hold Mr. Kauk accountable for his actions. His convictions would not have been possible without her bravery to come to court and tell the truth.
