WHAT: Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Mono County Jail Project
WHEN: Tuesday September 2, 2025; 1:00 PM
WHERE: 221 Twin Lakes Road; Bridgeport, CA
WHO: Representatives from the Mono County Board of Supervisors, Public Works Department, Sheriff's Office, and project Contractors and Vendors
WHY: The County is initiating construction on a long-planned, essential public safety facility designed to meet modern standards and address the County's criminal justice needs.
DETAILS: A brief program will precede a traditional shovel-ready photo opportunity marking the official start of construction. The media is invited to attend the brief ceremony.
PURPOSE: The new Jail is needed to replace the existing, outdated facility in Bridgeport. It will provide better support for inmates and will help the County meet the requirements of Assembly Bill 109, which shifted the responsibility of incarcerating certain offenders from the state to the local level. The facility will have a total of approximately 50 beds and will include multiple housing units with dayrooms and fully enclosed outdoor recreation space. It features new intake areas, release areas and rehabilitation program space. The new Jail will also have onsite medical, kitchen, and laundry facilities.
