State Route 108/Sonora Pass to Open May 12
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) to Open from Winter Closure
MONO COUNTY — Caltrans will open State Route 108/Sonora Pass from its winter closure tomorrow, May 12, at 2:00 pm. The highway was originally closed for the season on December 16, 2021. The reopening of Sonora Pass is a joint operation between Caltrans District 9 and Caltrans District 10 and follows weeks of snow and debris removal from the highway. In addition to Sonora Pass, Caltrans District 10 will open State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass at 2:00 pm tomorrow as well.
Once Sonora Pass officially opens, the only Caltrans highway in District 9 that will still be in a winter closure will be State Route 203 at Mammoth Mountain Inn. Every other winter closure road has already reopened, including:
State Route 89/Monitor Pass
State Route 120 W at the Lee Vining Gate
State Route 120 E/Mono Mills Road
State Route 158 N/North June Lake Loop
State Route 270/Bodie Road
State Route 168 W at Aspendell
With the spring and summer travel season upon us, Caltrans would like to encourage all motorists to download the Quickmap app to their smartphone. The app gives users the latest information on road conditions on the California State Highway System, including lane closures, road closures, and rest area availability. The app also features Waze layers that provide even more details about highway conditions. Before you hit the road this year, plan your trip with the Quickmap app or website at quickmap.dot.ca.gov. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
