Consumer Alert - Price Gouging Protections in Effect Following Pack Fire Emergency: Following the State of Emergency declaration for the Pack Fire, Mono County residents and businesses are protected by California’s price-gouging laws, which prohibit raising the cost of essential goods and services by more than 10%. These protections apply to a wide range of necessities, including rental housing, hotel rates, groceries, gas, and emergency repair services. The law is designed to prevent unfair exploitation of community members during the recovery process and remains in effect for at least 30 days, though it can be extended for specific services like reconstruction. If you believe you have been a victim of price gouging or witness suspicious price spikes, please report the incident to the California Attorney General’s Office here, or call (800) 952-5225.
