FAQs
CCS
There are no fees for children who have full-scope Medi-Cal insurance. Other families may need to pay a small annual fee based on family size and income.
Typically a referral to CCS is made by your child's health care provider or medical insurance plan. However, any concerned person, such as a parent, teacher, or social worker may refer a child to CCS.
California children and young adults under the age of 21 may be eligible if they have a serious medical condition requiring special care such as diabetes, cerebral palsy, cancer, sickle cell anemia, traumatic injuries, hearing loss, and many others. Please contact us if you have specific questions and we will do our best to answer. The state ultimately makes these decisions based on diagnosis and medical documentation from your doctor or hospital.
CCS can help you find and pay for medical services that may include the following: hospital and physician care; x-ray and laboratory services; medical supplies and equipment; medications; home health care; physical and occupational therapy; orthodontic care. (All services except emergencies need CCS approval before the services are given).
California law requires that families applying for services be given information on how CCS protects their privacy:
- We must keep this information confidential
- We may share information on the form with authorized staff from other health and welfare programs only when you have signed a consent form.
- You have the right to see your application and CCS records concerning you or your child. If you wish to see these records, please contact us. By law, the information you give CCS is kept by the program.
Children with full-scope Medi-Cal insurance are eligible. Children in families with adjusted gross income under $40,000 are eligible. Children in families with adjusted gross income over $40,000 may be eligible; an income cost analysis will be needed to determine eligibility. Eligibility is based on diagnosis.
Children with Medi-Cal coverage who have CCS eligible medical conditions are eligible for CCS services. CCS will authorize services related to the qualifying CCS medical condition. CCS may cover some services that Medi-Cal does not cover. You must inform CCS at the time your child’s Medi-Cal coverage changes or is terminated.
Your child may be eligible for the CCS program even though you have private health insurance coverage. There will be an income analysis required to determine eligibility. In general, private insurance must be utilized first. You must keep CCS informed of changes or termination of your private insurance benefits.
