Eastern Sierra Counties Launch Outdoor Recreation Survey to Guide Future Investments
Alpine County, CA — Inyo, Mono, and Alpine Counties are inviting residents and visitors to share their perspectives through the Eastern Sierra Outdoor Recreation Survey, a new regional effort designed to better understand how outdoor recreation impacts local communities, businesses, and visitors throughout the Eastern Sierra.
Outdoor recreation plays a vital role in the economy, culture, and environmental stewardship of the Eastern Sierra region. Through this survey, the three counties aim to gather valuable input that will help guide future planning and investments to support sustainable recreation opportunities across the region.
The survey seeks feedback from residents, visitors and business owners in the Eastern Sierra. Participants will be asked about their experiences in the region, recreation preferences, and perspectives on how recreation infrastructure and management can better serve communities and visitors alike.
Insights gathered from the survey will help local leaders and regional partners better understand recreation patterns, economic impacts, and priorities for future improvements. The results will support collaborative planning efforts aimed at ensuring the Eastern Sierra continues to provide world-class recreation opportunities while protecting the landscapes and communities that make the region unique.
The survey is open and takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.

Regional leaders hope the survey will help ensure future recreation investments reflect the voices of those who live in and visit the Eastern Sierra.
“This effort is about listening,” said Alpine County Economic Development Director JT Chevallier. “Outdoor recreation is central to our communities and local economies. By hearing directly from the people who experience the Eastern Sierra, we can make thoughtful decisions that support both access and long-term stewardship.”
