Wild by nature, Mono County is a destination that is full of adventure.  Set on the eastern slopes of California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range, Mono County is a rare environment of natural contrasts:  soaring granite peaks and spacious desert vistas, quiet lakes and bubbling hot springs, cold mountain streams, winter snows and sunny summer skies, rolling sagebrush hills and vibrant wildflower meadows.  “Mono” in Paiute means “beautiful”, which aptly describes this highly scenic area.  Mono County averages 108 miles in length reaching from the Alpine County and Nevada State borders in the north to the Inyo County border in the south.  The average width of the County is 38 miles.  Its land area is 3,028 square miles.  The population is 13,617.
