March 3, 2026 Board Meeting Highlights
- Red Cross Month: The Board adopted a Proclamation designating the month of March 2026 as Red Cross Month.
- Women’s History Month: The Board adopted a Proclamation designating the month of March 2026 as Women’s History Month; "Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future".
- Consolidation of Elections Mammoth Unified School District: The Board adopted a resolution, consolidating the Special Tax Election called by the Mammoth Unified School District for the Purpose of Submitting to the Voters of the District a measure entitled "The Special Tax Measure for Mammoth Unified School District".
- Golden Mussels Workshop: A workshop was hosted by Sustainable Outdoors & Recreation to brief the BOS on the Golden Mussels mitigation efforts, including presentation of a draft ordinance mandating watercraft inspection, and recommendations from the Golden Mussels Ad-Hoc Committee of how the County should be involved in the regional effort.
- Proposed Ordinance: The Board approved an ordinance creating a County-run water vessel inspection program to prevent the introduction of the invasive Golden Mussel. The ordinance is scheduled to come back for the second reading on March 10.
- Parking Fines: The Board adopted a Resolution adopting a new fee schedule for parking violations to align fees with the Town of Mammoth Lakes.

Need a hand this month? Here is a quick checklist of food, family, and utility support available across Mono County:
- Mobile Food Drops: The IMACA truck visits Benton, Mammoth Lakes, Lee Vining, Walker, Chalfant, June Lake, and Bridgeport on March 12, 17, and 26 (weather permitting—check local socials!).
- Free Groceries: Pick up fresh food at the Salvation Army in Mammoth Lakes (Mon & Fri, 4:00–5:30 PM) or grab daily pantry staples at Second Chance Thrift Store (10:00 AM–5:00 PM).
- Family Support: Get free diapers from Mono County First 5, plus healthy food and nutrition help from WIC for pregnant mothers and kids under 5.
- Senior & Emergency Help: Home-delivered meals are available for adults 60+, utility assistance (electric, wood, propane) is provided through LIHEAP, and emergency supplies are offered via Eastern Sierra Community Housing.

New Free Public Health Vending Machines in Mono County
Mono County recently launched a Public Health Vending Machine Program, offering residents free, 24/7, and anonymous access to life-saving and essential health supplies.
Here is what you need to know to access these new resources:
- Where to find them: Machines are currently located at the Mammoth Lakes Library (400 Sierra Park Rd, Mammoth Lakes) and Latin Market 2 (4750 US-6, Chalfant).
- What's inside: The machines dispense a wide variety of free supplies, including:
- Narcan (Naloxone) and fentanyl test strips
- Pregnancy tests, emergency contraception, and condom kits
- COVID tests, N95 masks, and radon test kits
- Menstrual hygiene kits and adult/pediatric dental kits
- Cable gun locks and tobacco quit kits
- Why it matters: This program removes barriers like cost and stigma, making it easier for our community to stay healthy and safe on their own schedule.
