Wildfire Resilience Week event at Long Valley Fire Station, June 5; Wildfire Insurance Update Webinar event, June 7

Hello, RPAC members,

I want to remind you of a great event next week, the Eastern Sierra’s Wildfire Resilience Week, at the Long Valley Fire Station on the evening of Tuesday, June 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The evening will start off with a meet and greet and free refreshments from Great Basin; come early at 5 pm if you wish!

We will then start with an ‘Introduction to Firewise’ workshop on how to become a ‘Firewise Community’ by organizing your neighborhoods and community so you, your property and your community can better survive a wildfire. The Firewise USA program is the only program at this time that offers a discount on fire insurance for those communities that become Firewise; just one more good reason to stop by and learn from guest speaker Beth Burnam how to become a Firewise Community.

Following that short talk, we will head to the free buses outside the fire station for a short drive to two local homes where Burnam, who also has experience training others on how to best mitigate the impacts of a wildfire on their property, will give us a hands-on demonstration of what techniques are most effective, and why, in protecting your home and property.

Once the evening is done, Burnam and myself will stay engaged in the long run with anyone in the community who wants to learn more about these Home Hardening/Defensible Space techniques and/or who wants to move forward and become Firewise. We have already helped more than a dozen Mono County communities that are now on their way to becoming Firewise and we are committed to making sure you feel supported in the long run.

On another note: Has anyone here had their insurance cancelled? We are guessing the answer is yes and that’s why we are also inviting you to a virtual webinar “The Future of Wildfire Insurance’ on Friday, June 7 from noon to 1 p.m., where guest speaker and expert on wildfire insurance, Yana Valochovic, whom some of you know from previous events, will update us on the latest information on this critical topic. That event can be attended in-person at the Mammoth Lakes Library or you can attend virtually; see the attached flyer for information how to log in or contact me if you have any questions.

Please feel free to share this email/flyers with your local social media or email contacts or anyone else you think might be interested. The more the merrier!

We hope to see you there!

Wendi
