Hello, Bridgeport RPAC members,
I want to remind you of a great event next week, our local Eastern Sierra Wildfire Resilience Week, at the Bridgeport Fire Station on the evening of Wednesday, June 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The evening will start off with free food from a local vendor; come early at 5 pm if you wish for a meet and greet and meal!
Then, stay for a great workshop showcasing some really good, effective, pragmatic, often-inexpensive tips about how to become a ‘Firewise Community’ by organizing your neighborhoods and community so you, your property and your community can better survive a wildfire. This ‘Introduction to Firewise’ workshop will start the evening off, with a short Home Hardening and Defensible Space workshop following. Both will feature a guest speaker, Beth Burnam, who has tons of experience organizing communities to become Firewise Community certified, as well as experience training others on how to best mitigate the impacts of a wildfire on their property. The Firewise USA program is the only program at this time that offers a discount on fire insurance for those communities that become Firewise; another good reason to stop by and learn more. Once the event is done, Burnam and myself will stay engaged with in the long run with anyone in the community who steps up and wants to move forward and become Firewise; we have already helped more than a dozen Mono County communities who are now on their way to becoming Firewise, up from none last year, and we are committed to making sure you feel supported in the long run, if you choose to move forward.
We also invite you to a virtual webinar on June 7 from noon to 1 p.m. where an expert on wildfire insurance, Yana Valochovic, whom some of you know from previous events, will update us on the latest information on this critical topic.
