    Our mission is to serve, aid, and protect needy and vulnerable children and adults residing in Mono County in ways that strengthen and preserve families, encourage personal responsibility, and foster independence. The Mono County Department of Social Services offers a variety of services to individuals and families through several Federal, State, and County programs.

    If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, or if you are a child who is being maltreated, contact your local child protective services office or law enforcement agency so professionals can assess the situation.

    Foster Care

    Child Welfare protects children from abuse and neglect. We work with families to ensure the safety of their children and to assist them in reaching their full potential. When children cannot be cared for by their families due to safety issues, we place them with families that can provide a temporary to lifelong commitments to them. We work in collaboration with the community toward healthy independence for families and their children.”

    Resource Family Approval Program (RFA)

    RFA is a new family-friendly and child-centered caregiver approval process that combines elements of the current foster parent licensing, relative approval, and approvals for adoption and guardianship processes and replaces those processes
