LIGHTNING-CAUSED EAGLE TWO FIRE GROWS TO 126 ACRES

Bridgeport, California; Aug. 13, 2015 (11 a.m.) – Interagency fire crews continue to work to contain a fire burning on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest just west of Bridgeport, California. Lightning, earlier in the week, caused the Eagle Two Fire. It is currently burning in timber and has grown to 126 acres.

Yesterday, personnel on the Bridgeport Ranger District with the help from the Mono County Sheriff’s Office evacuated the Buckeye Campground and nearby hot springs and closed the Buckeye Road. The Buckeye recreation site was a mile from where the Eagle Two Fire started. No recreation structures have been lost at this time.

As of 11 a.m., resources assigned to the fire include two air attacks, four single engine air tankers (S.E.A.T.s), one heavy air tanker, two helicopters, seven engines, six handcrews and various overhead. The Great Basin Type III Team has taken command of the fire and additional resources continue to be ordered.

The chance of wildfires occurring has increased due to the recent warm temperatures and long term drought conditions. Also, a red flag warning is in effect for western Nevada and the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains from 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 for gusty winds and low humidity.

Forest officials encourage the public to be extremely cautious with activities that could potentially cause a wildfire.
