Rock Creek Road Construction Notice

Update on the Rock Creek Road Construction (as of June 11, 2015)
The second year of major reconstruction on the Rock Creek Road is underway. Work on this project began last year. While the road will remain open to traffic throughout the project, visitors may experience delays of up to 30 minutes.  Additionally, at certain times, the road may need to be closed for longer periods of time. Also see link to Mammoth Times article on closures.

Here are important updates to the construction plan so that recreationists can plan their visit.

Bridge Slab Work: Four Hour Delays
There will be one week when there will four-hour delays twice per day while they are working on the bridges. This work is anticipated to start the week of July 6th and the closures are as follows:

July 7th: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday July 8th: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Thursday July 9th:  8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Friday July 10th:  8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.to 5:00 p.m. {only if needed}.

Surveyors
Surveyors will also be working weekends the next few weeks but will not be stopping traffic.

All Rock Creek recreational activities -  hiking, fishing, horseback riding, camping -  will remain available throughout the season, and the Rock Creek area businesses look forward to welcoming visitors as they do every year.

This year the project will be completed. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has contracted and will oversee the project that will improve the road, widen it, and provide a bicycle lane. Note that Mono County is not the lead agency on the construction phase of this project.

On Nov. 19, 2013 this project was awarded to Ace Engineering, Inc.
