In coordination with other agencies such as the Special District Fire Departments, County Sheriff’s Department, Mono County Search and Rescue, CHP, USFS and CAL-FIRE the County Paramedic Fire/Rescue members work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide assistance to those in need. Mono County Paramedic Fire/Rescue continually strives for excellence in prehospital patient care by routinely reviewing all calls and field-to-hospital radio transmissions. Additionally all personnel must maintain proficiency in skills/knowledge through mandated and optional Continuing Education courses. Overview Mono County Paramedic Fire/Rescue is responsible for emergency medical calls and inter-facility ambulance transports within the specified region. As the area consists of high deserts and remote mountains, environmental challenges such as rugged terrain and weather extremes are often the norm. A close working relationship with the local (predominantly volunteer) Fire Departments helps to maximize available personnel and resources to provide emergency services. Additional training beyond the scope of EMS duties allows the paramedic members to assist on the fire ground, and congruently the Fire Departments provide first responder medical support and manpower to assist the paramedic ambulances. Mono County Paramedic Fire/Rescue members are also trained in Low Angle Rope Rescue and Ice Rescue (cold water rescue). Mono County Paramedic Fire/Rescue employs twenty-three paramedic/firefighters and one EMT/firefighter. They staff four advanced life support ambulances around the clock, usually with two paramedics. In addition, one reserve ALS ambulance is fully equipped and is placed in service when needed. They provide advanced life support services 24 hours a day in all weather conditions to the citizens of this county and visitors. Policies
Mono County Paramedic Fire/Rescue operates under a physician medical director, and is authorized to perform state-of-the-art advanced medical procedures in the field through a comprehensive medical protocol system. The system was developed through cooperation with three other counties (forming ICEMA) and the base hospital staff. This allows quick and effective intervention when only minutes can mean the difference between life and death. The Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) is continuously updating protocols to keep abreast of the most recent medical advances. Their website is: http://www.sbcounty.gov/icema/. Fire Codes and/or Building Requirements Any inquiries as to local fire codes or building requirements should be directed to the Special District Fire Department within which the project is to take place or contact Tom Perry, Building Official, at the Mono County Building Department: (760) 932-5433.
